Who Are My People?

Success oftentimes can look very different from what we originally planned. How often in life do we set out on a path, keeping the finish line in sight; the path seems so straight yet along the way we run into detours, change of course, road blocks, twists and turns? Pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum often reflect this.

On the path of life it is so meaningful to have people walking alongside you, cheering you on, helping you when the road gets tough, ultimately we were not meant to do life alone.

Pregnancy and all it involves is the same, a life event not meant to be done alone. The journey of motherhood needs witnesses and support, people to come alongside you and encourage you, remind you of your strength and be there when your strength seems to fail you.

In America we have a unique culture of individualism and this concept often prohibits us from enjoying the benefits of community. "I don't need anyone, I can do this on my own, I got this far on my own." While being strong and independent is beautiful it can often rob us of the beauty of healthy dependence and learning on the wisdom of those who have gone before us.

I would argue that one of those "healthy dependencies," can be a doula. A doula is not there to push you into a specific type of birth, or to convince you of an agenda. A doula is a soul that is there to see you, help you, remind you of your strength, help you on the detours, the twists and turns with the ultimate goal being a healthy mama and having a healthy baby.

I would love to be one of your people helping you in this beautiful journey. Click the link and lets start this leg of the journey together.
