When we think about doulas often the immediate thought is, natural, crunchy, no pain medication, vaginal birth only.

No! A doula is there support mama, to support you!

Sooo, while the evidence and science promotes vaginal birth when possible not every woman has this ability.

What is a doulas role in a c-section situation.

For this post I will talk about a doulas role in a PLANNED c-section.

I currently have a client that is unable to have vaginal delivery due to a previous uterine rupture.

My client has desires for her delivery like any other mom.

What is the doulas role in this birth, what's my role?

Since the exact date and time is planned we are able to address things ahead, helping her get her ducks in a row prior to delivery, remove as many last minute stressors as possible.

Once we get to the hospital my role is the same as a vaginal birth: support, love and care.

I will be in the operating room helping mama find her voice to advocate for herself. If baby has trouble I'm there to be with baby or support mama while papa stays with baby. I'm there to help support in whatever way I can. If mama is able to breastfeed right away I will be there to provide a lot of support as she is still in surgery.

I also want to be there for her partner if they need support as well.

Cesareans do not disqualify you from having a doula, if anything a doula could bring you that support you need to feel like a victorious warrior as you bring your child into this world.

You got this mama!
